Hi to all the Kelly Gangers out there.
Hello Once Again!
Im jumping the gun here a bit and im posting my welcome to 2009 blog in the year 2008, but what are you going to do?
So 2008 is winding to a close and what a year its been. The Kelly Gang has had a little bit of everything. The year has ranged from debuts, to injury, to new members, to Trios Trophy chances, and copping beat downs. So where exactly do I begin?
The Kelly Gang originally started as just my self and my brother Gene getting together to have some fun in the ring. We came to the conclusion that our tag team situation wasnt really going to get us anywhere in PWA-Australia, as there really is no tag team division. If we wanted to achieve anything of significance we'd need a third member so we could compete for the Trios Trophy. Boy, who ever thought it'd be so hard to find a third person to join a team. We searched high and low, asking the likes of Ash Riot (who turned out to already be a member of the Trios Champions. Who'd have thunk it?) and even Madison Eagles. It turns out Madison is quite violent when she's in a bad mood and Im still recovering from the physicality of that conversation. Anyway, our search lead us to Mat Diamond, who originally turned us down several times. Now, having sat back and studied Diamonds wrestling style, I personally decided that he was the guy I wanted as our third (and I think Gene felt the same) so we set about a plan to get him to join. It all started with a Gene Kelly made video making fun of MMAAAAAATTTTT DDDDIIIIIIAAMMMMOOOOONDD (look it up on You Tube). We then constantly bombarded him with MMAAAAATTTTT DDDIIIIIAAAMMMMOOONNNND calls backstage at shows and over the phone. And the culmination of the plan? A match against Gene Kelly with the stipulation of, we win Mat joins the Kelly Gang, he wins, We stop with the jokes. We won. After a period of reluctance of being a Kelly Gang member, Mat has grown to love being a part of the group and we are glad to have him.
The Kingdom have been a big issue in PWA-Australia lately. For those who dont know, the Kingdom is a group of guys consisting of PWA Champion Ahmed Iblis, Esteban Molina, Johnny Gunn, Mike Valuable and Fumanchu. They have been on an absolute rampage, beating down whoever gets in their way. The Kelly Gang has a bunch of history with Kingdom members, going all the way back to my first ever match at a PWA Academy Show. Ahmed Iblis had just joined the company and I was the first person fed to him. It wasnt enough that he beat me in that match, but he also attacked me afterwards. We then continue through to my first official PWA match were I lost to Esteban Molina. Our first shot at the Trios Trophy we had Johnny Gunn on our team. Myself and Gene then battled Esteban and Gunn in a tag match. We lost. Then, in Newcastle, we had another match. Trios action against Esteban, Gunn, and Iblis. A very formidable team. We came out on top result wise, but they weren't happy with that and I ended up copping another post match beat down from Ahmed Iblis (I think he doesnt like me for some reason). Just recently, Robbie Eagles got busted open by Esteban after a match, so maybe Eagles will join the fight against the Kingdom. I dare say, that the Kingdom will be around for a long time to come, but if we keep chipping away through '09, maybe we can shorten their reign of terror.
The Bankstown Riot Squad are the current Trios Trophy Champions and have been since the Trophy was reinstated earlier this year. Ash Riot, MH Cydell and Alex Rudka are good guys and are very deserving of their position as champions. But considering the effort we put into our last Trios match against them, and the fact that we beat the Kingdom Trio, I think we are in good stead for another shot at taking the trophy from them. I respect all three of the guys and look forward to hopefully wrestling them again in the near future and hopefully 2009 is the year of the Kelly Gang.
